Living on the Edge, or in a Very Windy City

Ok, let’s talk about the hair, but not before talking about this picture. I show you this picture only to show you yet another, boring hair day.  In my defense, this was the day immediately following Little Lady’s all night vomiting episode and I needed my hair colored.  And, just to be clear, even though it looks like I am choking Second Son, I swear I am not.  Ok, back to the hair.At this point, just a few weeks ago, I was sick to death of my long, sort of straight hair. I say sort of straight, because once upon a time it was straight (except when I was going through a long extended big hair phase and it was permed), and then, I had Second Son and the back started to curl.  It was weird, but manageable.  Then, I had Little Lady, and the curl spread almost everywhere except for the front third of my hair that framed my face. Even more weird and not so manageable.  It didn’t always make for good hair days.

The curl, kink, and coarseness has since faded, leaving a wave in its place.  But still, only in the back.

Anyway, for the last few years, my hair has been some version of a bob, with little variation in between.  Sure, I’ve had a few layered cuts here and there, but for the most part, it’s either been a long bob or a medium length bob, while I avoided the short bob, which tends to take on a bell shape on my head.

After much thought and many Internet searches, I finally came to the decision that I was agonizing way too much over the decision.  After all, what’s the big deal?  It’s hair.  It will grow back.  So, I decided to live on the edge and cut it all off.

The only problem is, I didn’t really have a clear picture of what I wanted.  So, my hairdresser and I worked off several pictures, taking a cut and go approach.  Here are two of the photos I used for inspiration, plus some that are not here, of Cate Blanchett with her short hair.

Cute don’t you think.

As for how my hair turned out, I can’t say I love it.  I can’t say I hate it.  I just feel somewhere in between.  It’s not really what I wanted, but I can’t tell you exactly what I wanted.  I like the spunkiness and ease, but I’m still not sold on the front, which has a Suze Ormandesque shape to it, which I’m not digging.  No offense, Suze Ormand.

In order to avoid this, I think I may have overcompensated in the styling department, because after seeing this picture, I was a little disturbed.  Did you ever walk out the door thinking you looked just fine, but then saw a picture of yourself and decided otherwise? That’s how I feel about this picture.I kind of look like I’m getting ready to take off, or, just got off a sailboat, I’m not really sure.  But what I do know, is that it wasn’t windy that night, and my hair doesn’t resemble any of the pictures I showed my hairdresser.

I’ll have to keep working at it.

Until next time.
