It’s been a quick December, hasn’t it? These last few short weeks have seen a lot of decorating, baking, shopping, preparing and running around. Here’s a look at what we’ve been doing. We hung the lights and I repurposed the teepee into a Christmas tree. It’s keeping our backyard merry and bright. We’ve seen three snowfalls already. I hope this isn’t an omen for the rest of the winter. I’m not big on constant snow. Give me one big storm and I’m happy, then bring on spring. But the snow has made for a pretty backdrop. After putting the kids to bed one snowy night, I came down to this view out the front window, our tree reflected in the panes, a fire still burning, and thought, now this is peaceful. We’ve been baking, too. With the help of our Littlest Pet Shops. In case you wonder what they are reading, it is my recipe for sugar cookies that you can find here. I still stand by this recipe, especially if you like your sugar cookies soft. They come out of the oven crisp, but once you add the icing and let them sit they become delicious! We also made some chocolate chip cookies for Little Lady’s class party, the aforementioned sugar cookies, were supposed to go into the party, until we remembered the whole refrigerate the dough for two hours thing. So, we saved them for another night, and happily ate them ourselves. And, Thursday night, for the grand finale, I made these “hot chocolate” cupcakes, inspired by Pinterest, for my oldest’s holiday party. His class watched Polar Express, so I thought they were pretty appropriate. First Son said it was the best cupcake I had ever made, which was funny (and by funny I mean insulting) since only the icing was homemade. Little Lady also had her Christmas show. Sadly, her first and last, since she will be going to public school, next year, and went to a secular preschool in years past (kind of regretting that now). She’s still on her jaguar kick. It suits her well. So, now, with the kids officially on winter break, we wait for Christmas. I will be busy trying to keep my house clean, much to their dismay, no, you can’t have six friends in the house, and no, you cannot paint! Is she kidding with this?I am hosting Christmas dinner this year and haven’t yet decided what to make. So, for the next two days, I’ll be burning up the Internet looking for some good recipes.
Wish me luck.
